To convey in non-mathematical language, elementary concepts of symmetry in finite objects and repetitive patterns.

This material would be suitable as an introduction for undergraduates with no previous knowledge of crystallography.

General scientific knowledge combined with an interest in learning crystallography.

Use is made of Volume 1 of International Tables for Crystallography (the specific examples used are from the 1965 edition).

This represents an introductory course of perhaps two lectures, plus time for the students to study and assimilate the material presented.
