I hope this isn't seen as an abuse of the list, but the listmembers might be just the right community to help with this.We're hoping to recruit an additional team member to theIUCr R&D group, as detailed below, and we'd be very gratefulif you could circulate this notice among contacts who mightfind it of interest. Although the advertised position isnot directly related to scientific data, it's likely thatthe right candidate would become involved in expanding ourdata publishing expertise. We will consider recent graduates,but some hands-on experience of database management wouldbe a definite advantage.

Systems Developer-----------------
The International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) invites applicationsfor a systems developer to join our small multi-talented group in afriendly office in the centre of the historic city of Chester.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the physical orstructural biological sciences, with programming experience and provenor demonstrable ability to write robust software in a modernhigh-level scripting language. Experience in some or all of thefollowing areas will be especially helpful:
   * Developing schemas for SQL databases or LDAP directories   * Management and development of relational databases (mySQL, Postgres)   * Detailed knowledge of Perl and/or Tcl   * CSS and JavaScript coding   * Linux/Unix systems administration   * e-Commerce and systems integration in a web environment   * Search/retrieval software; semantic web; taxonomies/ontologies
Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems and common open-sourcetools is essential.
The successful candidate will be versatile, with an intelligentapproach to problem solving, able to work both in team projects and onindividual initiative, and with a genuine commitment to the IUCr'sinvolvement in scientific publishing, data evaluation and educationaloutreach.
The initial appointment will be for a period of 5 years subject toan initial 12-month probationary period. Starting salary will benegotiable according to experience, but not less than GBP 25000p.a.
