A new article, "The Science is in the Data", has been posted as anearly-view article in IUCrJ, with DOI
  https://doi.org/10.1107/S2052252517013690
The article, by John R. Helliwell, Brian McMahon, J. Mitchell Gussand Loes M. J. Kroon-Batenburg, is based in part on John Helliwell'sKeynote Lecture at the 2017 IUCr Congress in Hyderabad, and hasthe following abstract:
Understanding published research results should be throughone's own eyes and include the opportunity to work with rawdiffraction data to check the various decisions made in theanalyses by the original authors. Today, preserving rawdiffraction data is technically and organizationally viableat a growing number of data archives, both centralized anddistributed, which are empowered to register data sets andobtain a preservation descriptor, typically a `digital objectidentifier'. This introduces an important role of preservingraw data, namely understanding where we fail in or couldimprove our analyses. Individual science area case studiesin crystallography are provided.
