I will try to answer to all points in your message later but may be not this 
week neither the next one (I ma at the CAUSE meeting in Florida).

About lists you may look at the french equivalent of the british one:
http://www.//www.cru.fr/listes/

I agree that for an International server it is better not be seen among 
national lists.

You may also download sympa from http://www.cru.fr/listes/atelier/
They say that there is also a Web presentation from this page but this page 
seeems not to exist!

sympa is extensively used now from this addresse for many lists. If you wish 
to know more I know these people.

Second thing: your archive presentation looks very good.
