- Subject: Formal specification (BNF) for CIF

Following earlier discussion on the cif-developers and comcifs-l
discussion lists, a draft Backus-Naur Form specifying the syntax and
grammar of CIF has been posted for public review at
http://www.iucr.org/iucr-top/cif/spec/cif-bnf.html
The period of review will end on October 31 2000. If no objections are
forthcoming, this will be accepted as the definitive BNF for CIF,
to ensure greater consistency in the behaviour of CIF software.
Comments on the draft should be submitted to the COMCIFS coordinating
secretary ([email protected]) or the author of the BNF ([email protected])
before the October 31 deadline. Public discussion is also invited
on the [email protected] distribution list.
