The Paul Scherrer Institute is a centre for multi-disciplinary research and one of the world's leading user laboratories. With its 1300 employees it belongs as an autonomous institution to the Swiss ETH domain and concentrates its activities on solid-state research and materials sciences, elementary particle physics, energy and environmental research as well as biology and medicine. Important structural changes of proteins occur in the sub-ms to second time scale. The goal of the project is to develop the means necessary to characterize such structural changes and dynamics using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The coherent X-ray scattering group runs the highly brilliant cSAXS facility at the Swiss Light Source. The beamline is equipped with state-of-the-art X-ray detectors and is capable of high-throughput SAXS measurements with high spatial and/or temporal resolution. In close collaboration with the laboratory of biomolecular research at PSI, as well as with members of the international research community, we aim to study structural dynamics of complex biological systems. For the joined project of the biology and synchrotron radiation department we are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow time-resolved small-angle X-ray scattering Your tasks * Deepen your expertise in static SAXS of protein samples in solution * Help to develop the experimental and analytical means necessary for time-resolved SAXS experiments * Collaborate on scientifically relevant problems with structural biologists who will add expertise and offer protein production facilities * Throughout the duration of the project, research results shall be presented on international conferences and published in peer-reviewed scientific journals Your profile You hold a PhD in physics, biology, or a related field. You have substantial experience in small-angle scattering, using X-rays and/or neutrons, and are knowledgeable in the necessary computational analysis methods. You enjoy working in a multidisciplinary group with numerous international collaborations. Working language is English.
