Postdoc/temporary scientist CoSAXS Lunds universitet, MAX IV, Diffraction & ScatteringLund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top 100 universities. The University has 40 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition. MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light. As a national laboratory, MAX IV is operated in agreement with governmental regulations, and in compliance with major funders such as the Swedish Research Council (VR) and the Wallenberg Foundation. 250 people are currently employed at MAX IV Laboratory, and 16 beamlines are funded. The facility is in a ramp-up phase with 3 beamlines now receiving users and 13 more scheduled to be commissioned and built to receive users within the next few years. The facility is dimensioned for 25-28 beamlines. The CoSAXS beamline will be a state-of-the-art multipurpose Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) instrument with opportunities to use the inherent high coherence properties of the MAX IV machine through X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (XPCS) experiments. It will offer high brilliance, monochromatic and tuneable X-rays, with outstanding performance in low beam divergence and high X-ray flux. This high-performance X-ray beam will be complemented by an exceptional pool of sample environments and detector systems. Several techniques will be available through modular operation: USAXS/SAXS/WAXS, protein solution SAXS, time resolved SAXS and XPCS amongst others. It will meet the demands of a large and broad community of users. TasksThe successful postdoc/temporary scientist will join the team at CoSAXS, as the beamline moves from installation through commissioning and user operation. The candidate will strengthen the IT skills within the beamline team. You will develop software projects, working closely with the Controls and IT (KITS) team at MAX IV, to implement advanced data acquisition strategies (detectors data stream, preprocessing, live view, data and meta storage) and integrate sample environment controls. The candidate will implement data reduction pipelines for simultaneous SAXS/WAXS data from materials science and biological scientific experiments. You will explore the potential for virtual experiments to support the SAXS experiments. The candidate will lead these developments from design and implementation through to testing, documentation and publication, ensuring that solutions are delivered in a timely and effective manner, adopting the strategies and software methodologies already in place within the KITS environment at MAX IV. To summarize, we are looking for a self-motivated person to increase the functionality and reliability of the CoSAXS beamline, through the development of IT projects within the beamline team. You should have a strong knowledge of SAXS/WAXS techniques and will have the opportunity for scientific research and to form collaborations with different beamlines, method experts, and expert users in academia and industry. QualificationsPhD in relevant field (Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Biology, IT). Essential requirements:- Demonstrated experience of SAXS and WAXS- Experience of synchrotron techniques- Computer programming skills, with demonstrated experience of programming python, matlab, java, or GUIs.- Documented experience of automation and control of, for example, sample environments- Fluent in English (written and spoken)- Demonstrated ability to work in teams and interact with a diverse group of scientists and technical staff in a dynamic environment. Additional requirements are considered assets:Experience of:- Image processing and 2D detectors- Data storage and distributed file systems- GIT, Unit tests, CI/CD- Other programming languages: C, C++14, LUA, GO...- Electronics: DAC, ADC, CCD, CMOS ...- Parallel Computing such as DASK, OpenCL, GPU or FPGA.- Network and System: TCP/IP, Linux, GPFS, Infiniband- An Open source project collaboration- A Software development for scientific applications- An Agile team environment Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the doctoral degree or equivalent is completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier. For candidates with longer experience, appointment will be as a temporary scientist. This is a 2 year temporary employment. On call services may apply in the future. Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset. We kindly decline all sales and marketing contacts.
