There is a beta version of a tool called mmtool which you might find useful. It can be dowloaded from ftp://ftp.sdsc.edu/pub/sdsc/biology/CIFters/ It has the functionality of PDBtool (http://www.cse.ogi.edu/DISC/PDBTool/), but includes parsing and display of mmCIF files.
