What Ho ITOWG's: > Nicola and I have been discussing what form the recommendations > from the working group should take in order to be of most use in > the planning and development of IT Online. What is essential is to make sure that the general thrust of the current state of the recommendations be presented cogently and persuasively directly to the IUCr executive committee. The standard round of interviews of commission and committee chair persons takes place in Florence prior to the opening of the congress. If you have been summoned to appear all will be fine as you can rely on your own talents to do a really good job. If your presence has not be requested then the problem is much more tricky for you because you will have to get the working-group's recommendations over by way of an intermediary, probably the general editor of IT. Moreover you need to go along to a closed or open meeting of IT to present the working groups recommendations to the general editor and editors of International Tables. It seems to me that some of the latter are rather resistent to any change so a very fine touch is required. In that enterprise, I strongly recommend you to take Ulrich Mller along with you. In short, it is my opinion that the 'form of the recommendations' which will prove the most efficient and effective is direct vocal personal contact with the EC and the CIT. I doubt that you really required me to tell you that. H. PS. What is the word in German for a bow tie ? It's not in my dictionnary.
