CooperVision, in collaboration with the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley, is searching for a Postdoctoral Fellow to develop Small Angle X-ray Scattering tools for contact lenses.

Job Summary
Postdoctoral Research Contractor performing x-ray scattering and x-ray spectroscopy/microscopy characterization of polymeric materials at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory - Advanced Light Source on behalf of CooperVision. Job holder will report to the R&D Manager of the CooperVision Chemistry Group but interact daily with staff scientists at LBL.

The job is focused on the characterization and mechanistic understanding of dynamic processes of hydrated polymer samples via x-ray scattering, x-ray spectroscopy, and other surface and bulk analysis tools.

Essential Qualities:

* Works effectively in a cross-functional team environment at both the ALS-Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories Facility and CooperVision's Advanced Development Center.
* Ability to communicate effectively with both world-class experts in scattering, microscopy and spectroscopy at LBL, as well as, chemists and materials scientists at CooperVision ADC.
* Works under minimal supervision and is driven by project requirements such as milestones and timelines.
* Works independently to design and develop research strategy, and execute experiments.
* Effectively communicates, both orally and written, with internal personnel and external vendors and consultants. Ability to analyze data and write technical reports and create presentations.
* Keeps R&D manager informed on project progress and critical issues.
* Possess and maintain expert level knowledge in x-ray scattering and spectroscopy techniques for the characterization of polymeric materials.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Expert level knowledge in x-ray scattering and spectroscopy techniques
* Significant knowledge in polymer physics and/or polymer science.
* Effectively and clearly communicates, both orally and written
* Ability to analyze data and write high quality technical reports and presentations.

Work Environment:

* Contract Researcher is based 80% or greater time at the Advanced Light Source facility in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories with weekly meetings, updates, and occasional laboratory work at the Pleasanton Advanced Development Center of CooperVision.

Experience:
* Ph. D. with relevant experience in X-ray scattering.
