Dear fellow scatterers,

We have recently improved our popular “McSAS3” Monte Carlo small-angle scattering pattern analysis software, with corresponding improvements in usability of the accompanying “McSAS3GUI” user interface. Of particular note:

  - With a few under-the-hood tweaks, the optimisation speed has been increased by a factor of about 15.
  - There is now the option to add a Porod background in addition to the standard flat background, which will help fitting of e.g. powdered samples.
  - Optimization results that are re-histogrammed are now correctly replaced in the result file
  - McSAS3GUI plots the new backgrounds, and has had a few usability improvements that make its behaviour a bit more intuitive
  - If you have Astral’s “uv” package installed, you can launch McSAS3GUI from a bare machine with a one-line command: "uvx --python 3.14 --from mcsas3gui m3gui”

(As always: the more realistic your uncertainty estimates, the better McSAS3 works for you.)

The details and links are in my latest blog post: https://lookingatnothing.com/index.php/archives/4915

All the best,
