These pages collect together notices posted on the IUCr web site in past years. They are retained for archival interest, but there is no guarantee (or likelihood) that many of the web links found in these notices will still be active.
International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development, 2024–2033
The year 2023 was the warmest since global records began in 1850. No wonder then that the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (IDSSD; 2024–2033) has followed hot on the heels of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD; 2022/2023) to tackle climate change along with the other environmental, societal and economic challenges set out in the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Decade aims to foster a more transdisciplinary approach to problem-solving and a scientifically literate global population.
The IUCr is proud to support IDSSD, as it did IYBSSD, and the IUCr President, Santiago García-Granda, will attend a meeting of the Steering Committee on 9 February 2024. See Professor García-Granda talk about the IUCr's role in the Decade here.
IDSSD will be formally launched in Colombia in October 2024 during the Latin American and Caribbean Open Science Forum CILAC 2024, and UNESCO will produce reports in 2026, 2029 and 2032 to monitor progress towards the Decade’s goals.
