MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARIAT TO ALL ICSTI MEMBERS
*************************************************

At the General Assembly meetings in Taipei, the Digital Archiving report
sponsored by ICSTI and CENDI and prepared by Gail Hodge and Bonnie Carroll,
Information International Associates,Inc. (IIa) was presented and discussed
at the meeting of the Information Policy Committee (IPC).

The Executive Board then examined the recommendations on possible following
actions by ICSTI and both ICSTI and CENDI, at short and longer terms. A
first decision was to publish the report on the ICSTI public web site. But
before doing so, all ICSTI members should have the opportunity to review
the full report and the recommendations, and send their comments.

The main report and the appendices have therefore been mounted on the
private page of the web site. You are invited to send your comments and
suggestions to Ben Fouché, Chairman of IPC at bf@maties.sun.ac.za (with
copy to the secretariat). The comments will be reviewed by the Advisory
Team who supervised this study, and incorporated in the report as
appropriate. The edited version of the report will then be mounted on the
public web site, and a press release will be dispatched.

Because this announcement should be made at the time of, or shortly after
the World Conference on Science (Budapest 26 June - 1 July 1999) where
David Russon will make a presentation on this topic, your comments should
be sent no later than 16 June.

To reach the private page:

- Go to the ICSTI home page at www.icsti.org

- At the upper right corner press the button 'Member Services'

OR:

- Go directly to www.icsti.org/icsti/private

THEN:

- As requested indicate the userid which is 'icsti' and the password which
is 'stm99'

Thank you in advance for yur cooperation.

Marthe Orfus, Executive Secretary
