Bis[3α,7α,12α-tris(4-nitrobenzoyloxy)-5β-cholan-24-yl] disulfide-ethyl acetate-n-hexane (4/4/1)

[Stick plot showing disulfide]

The absolute configuration of a per-4-nitrobenzoyl bile acid derivative has been established with diffraction data collected with high-energy synchrotron radiation, despite a very small anomalous scattering effect from the sulfur atoms. The two symmetry-independent disulfide molecules in the asymmetric unit, with their centrally placed disulfide bridges, exhibit different helicity and intertwine to form a tight dimer having a double-helix-type structure.
