Multiple postdoc and PhD positions in Computational Materials Discovery Laboratory, Stony Brook University, USA:

We seek outstanding candidates for several PhD student and postdoctoral openings, available from October 2012. Applications can be sent at any time, preferably by 15 September 2012. The positions will be extremely competitive and filled when truly outstanding candidates are identified.
Our two main research directions are:
  1. development of new methods and codes for computational materials discovery.
  2. applications of novel computational methods to functional materials discovery, high-pressure physics, and studies of the mineralogy of planetary interiors.

Stony Brook is located in a very attractive part of Long Island. The University and our Laboratory have unique computing facilities. The newly established New York Center for Computational Science, to which our lab belongs, is aimed at creating a critical mass of computational research. Candidates should demonstrate their excellence and valid degrees in any of these fields - computational science and programming, physics, chemistry, materials science, geosciences. Strong background in theoretical physics/chemistry and/or simulation techniques is necessary. Applicants should submit a CV, a statement of research interests, and names of two references to Artem R. Oganov. Those applying for a PhD position should also apply online (http://www.grad.sunysb.edu/admissions/app_info.shtml) to the Geosciences Department.
