Dear Andreas, I absolutely agree with your remarks. Just to add my 2 cents as a non-MX fellow (and focused mostly on HP studies): it is, as you said, important to hear what crystallographers at synchrotrons consider essential information to include in the metadata, but that is not a standard which we need. The users are not oracles but human beings, and people make mistakes. I know that filling more boxes at the synchrotron is generally pain in the neck (or even somewhere lower), but 'scrambling for data that are always somewhere but never in one place' is even more painful. IUCr HP Commission is actually moving forward to finish the essential metadata definitions, which will be more boxes to fill, but beneficial at the time of data processing and structure submission. Since each technique will generate its own metadata I feel that the good practice should be to provide users with the metadata forms to fill (is there anything like ISPyB for non-MX experiments)? Of course, some metadata requirements should be a combination regarding different techniques (for example HPMX experiments, etc.). Best wishes, Kamil On 2016-02-08 08:04, Andreas Förster wrote:
