The problem is not that the current alias scheme cannot clone the DDL2 alias scheme, it is that it does not handle the full capabilities of DDLm to help manage dictionaries effectively. The, to use the new term, "identifer_set" scheme is an extension to better match those capabilities and simplify dictionary maintenance in the future as, hopefully, dictionaries consolidate on DDLm, but data and software remain heavily invested in DDL1 and DDL2 data files and in reading and writing and validating DDL1 and DDL2 formats. ===================================================== Herbert J.
