Lewy-Bertaut Prize

The European Crystallographic Assn (ECA) and the European Neutron Scattering Assn have awarded the 2007 Lewy-Bertaut Prize to Henrik M. Rønnow (EFPL, Lausanne, Switzerland).

For a young scientist Henrik already has a brilliant scientific track record. His work has concentrated on the experimental and theoretical aspects of quantum magnetism (spin dynamics in the two-dimensional magnet CFTD, in copper germanate as well as in high Tc cuprates). He has also been involved in the development of neutron instrumentation and simulation and data analysis software. Despite his yet early career, he has made significant contributions to neutron scattering science and has become a renowned expert in polarized neutron scattering techniques. His major publications in the highest ranking journals are frequently cited and have brought him considerable esteem among his peers.

Max Perutz Prize

[Stuart]David Stuart (U. of Oxford) has been awarded the 2007 Max Perutz Prize Award. He received the award ‘As one of the pioneers of virus crystallography and in recognition of his impact in this field, and his contributions to the structural chemistry of disease at the atomic level’. Further information on this Award will be available on the ECA website www.ecanews.org.
