IYCr 2013 logo design competition

Michele Zema was presented with a certificate and an Apple iPad 2 by Sine Larsen at the IUCr Congress.

The winning entry in the competition for a logo for the International Year of Crystallography 2013 was submitted by Michele Zema from the U. of Pavia, Italy. The design emphasizes the role of diffraction in the development of crystallography as a branch of science, with the zero in the representation of the festival year coinciding with the central beam of a hypothetical diffraction experiment, and the extended diffraction pattern forming the background.
