A Scientific Day for the International Council of Science (ICSU)
In advance of the General Assembly of the International Council of Science (ICSU), hosted by the Italian CNR in Rome, September 27-30 2011, a Symposium will be held in the Aula Magna of the University of Florence (September 23rd 2011) with the title From Elementary Chemical Processes to Complex Biological Structures for the Benefit of Life and Human Health.
Promoted by the Italian representatives at IUBMB (International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), IUCr (International Union of Crystallography) and IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry), the event will have the following speakers of excellence:
- Yuan Tseh Lee (Taiwan, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry in 1986 and elected President of ICSU): Elementary Processes Involved in Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization(MALDI)”
- Kurt Wüthrich (Svwitzerland, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry in 2002): NMR in Biological and Biomedical Research
- Venkatraman Ramakrishan (UK, Nobel Laureate in Chemistryin 2009): The Road to the Ribosome Structure: a Personal Account
- Sine Larsen (Denmark, President in charge of IUCr): The Impact of Synchrotron Radiation on Developments in Chemistry and Biology
- Kazuyuki Tatsumi (Japan, elected President of IUPAC): Chemistry of the Cluster Active Sites in Metalloenzymes – a Key to Realizing a Sustainable Society
- Andrea Mattevi (Italy): Structural Biochemistry of Chromatin Protein Complexes and Epigenetic Therapies
- Reiko Kuroda (Japan): Chirality as a crossroad of Chemistry and Biology- from molecules to crystals and snails
