UNESCO supports bursaries for African participants to attend the 24 Congress and General Assembly of the International Union of Crystallography
In keeping with the vision of the International Year of Crystallography (IYCr2014), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) is committed to facilitating the participation of scientists and students from the African continent in the 24th Congress of the International Union of Crystallography, that will take place in Hyderabad in August 2017. The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 24th IUCr Congress is delighted to announce that UNESCO will support the participation of around 10-20 scientists from Africa (excluding South Africa) with partial financial assistance.
UNESCO and the IUCr have over many years built a strong relationship. As part of this ongoing relationship, IUCr will attend the UNESCO International Basic Sciences Programme board meeting at UNESCO headquarters on January 24. The purpose of the meeting is to inform and discuss current and future activities which will help foster innovation, improve human wellbeing, protect the environment and human health, and build up competitive technology and agriculture.
Since the 2014 International Year of Crystallography, of which UNESCO were co-organisers, the United Nations agency has been instrumental in the success of numerous landmark events such as the first Pan African Conference on Crystallography (PCCr1), held at the University of Dschang in Cameroon in October 2016.
