Richard Henderson wins the 2017 Nobel Prize for Chemistry [posted 04 Oct 2017]  Richard Henderson, recent winner of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) Gjønnes Medal in Electron Crystallography and IUCrJ editorial board member, has been awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Jacques Dubochet, and Joachim Frank "for developing cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) for the high-resolution structure determination of biomolecules in solution".
Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin - The Film [posted 04 Oct 2017]  The Nobel Prize museum in Stockholm is looking for previously unpublished images and film of Dorothy Hodgkin.
LAAMP at the World Science Forum [posted 28 Sep 2017]  A thematic session sponsored by LAAMP and entitled "Light Sources and Crystallographic Sciences for Sustainable Development" has been approved to be part of the programme of the next World Science Forum.

Gregori Aminoff Prize in Crystallography 2018 [posted 15 Sep 2017]  The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Gregori Aminoff Prize in Crystallography 2018 to Professor Piet Gros from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, "for his fundamental contributions to understanding the complement system-mediated innate immune response".

2016 IUCr impact factor results [posted 16 Jun 2017]  The 2016 impact factors have been released by Clarivate Analytics. We are pleased to announce that IUCr Journals now occupy the top three positions in the Crystallography category.
Special issue on high-resolution X-ray diffraction and imaging [posted 14 Jun 2017]  The latest virtual special issue of Journal of Applied Crystallography with Guest Editors Virginie Chamard (Institute Fresnel) and Václav Holý (Charles University in Prague) http://journals.iucr.org/special_issues/2017/xtop2016/ features a selection of original contributions from the 13th Biennial Conference on High-Resolution X-ray Diffraction and Imaging (XTOP 2016), which was held in Brno, Czech Republic, in September 2016.

IUCr and IUPAP awarded an ICSU grant [posted 10 Feb 2017]  We are delighted to report that the IUPAP-IUCr project “Utilisation of Light Source and Crystallographic Sciences to Facilitate the Enhancement of Knowledge and Improve the Economic and Social Conditions in Targeted Regions of the World” has been approved and funded under the 2016-2019 ICSU Grants Programme.

2016 winners of the IUCr crystal growing competition [posted 02 Feb 2017]  Continuing the success of the crystal growing competition which launched during the International Year of Crystallography in 2014 we are delighted to announce the winners of the 2016 IUCr crystal growing competition.
UNESCO supports bursaries for African participants to attend the 24th Congress and General Assembly of the International Union of Crystallography [posted 23 Jan 2017]  The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 24th IUCr Congress is delighted to announce that UNESCO will support the participation of around 10-20 scientists from Africa (excluding South Africa) with partial financial assistance.
SESAME light source circulates first beam [posted 13 Jan 2017]  A beam circulated for the first time in the pioneering SESAME synchrotron at 18:12(UTC+3) on 11 January 2017. The next step will be to store the beam.
