Title: PDRA in SANS Shear Flow from Polymer Blends

Postdoctoral Research Position in Experimental Polymer Science

£18,731 p.a.

Applications are invited for a three-year postdoctoral research position
available from September 2001, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Candidates should have or soon expect to obtain a PhD in polymer physics
or chemistry or a related subject.

The research will focus on the behaviour of polymer blends subjected to
shear flow. Small angle neutron and light scattering will be used to
determine equilibrium structures and shear-induced structural changes,
and rheometry will be used to measure the rheological properties of
blends in both the miscible and immiscible states. As well as sample
preparation and physical characterisation, some development of novel
instrumentation will be necessary. Applications from candidates with
experience in polymer rheology and/or the use of scattering to probe the
structure of complex fluids are particular welcome. The project will be
supervised by Dr. Nigel Clarke, and will be conducted in close
collaboration with Dr. Stephen King at ISIS, and Professor Julia Higgins
at Imperial College, London.
