[High-pressure-crystallography] 4th DyCoMaX workshop 12-14 march 2024 @ ESRF - webpage

Dear colleagues,

the webpage for the 4th Workshop on Studies on Dynamically Compressed Matter with X-rays, to be held at the European Synchrotron (ESRF) in Grenoble March 12th to 14th (lunch to lunch), is now available here:

https://www.esrf.fr/home/events/conferences/2024/4th-dycomax-workshop.html

The registration and abstract submission pages will open soon.

The DyCoMaX workshop is dedicated to new scientific opportunities offered by the combination of dynamic compression, induced by powerful lasers or other shock-generating devices, with brilliant time-resolved X-ray probes. The aim of the workshop is to gather scientists - both from the static and dynamic extreme conditions communities - to discuss recent results and new  frontiers that can be explored thanks to this combination.

At the ESRF, dynamic compression has been developing around three time resolved techniques: X-ray Absorption on ID24, with the opening of the new High Power Laser Facility; X-ray Imaging on ID19 coupled with different dynamic compression devices (gas gun, laser, Hopkinson bar) and managed through a new community access mode, the Shock BAG;  X-ray Diffraction on ID09 coupled to a newly installed 5J ns laser.

2023 has also seen the opening of another important facility in Europe: the DIPOLE laser is now in operation on the HED instrument at European XFEL, coupling different X-ray techniques to laser-induced dynamic compression.

News compared to the previous editions:

the 4th DyCoMaX will be open to abstract submission, moreover, a training session for selected PhD students will take place on the 14th March afternoon.

The main topics of the workshop are:

- Planetary science: Structure, evolution, geodynamics of planets, space impacts

- Warm Dense Matter: experiments and modelling

- Behavior of matter under high strain rates

- Synthesis of new materials, new chemistry

- Synergy with static compression

- Ab initio simulations for matter under extreme conditions

With kind regards

The local organizing Committee:

Raffaella Torchio (chair), Jean-Alexis Hernandez, Nicolas Sévelin-Radiguet, Olivier Mathon, Mohamed Mezouar, Bratislav Lukic, Alexander Rack, Mikhail Kozhaev, Matteo Levantino, and Eva Jahn-Feppon
