Help in using the IUCr website

Navigating the crystallographic web

This is the web site maintained by the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr). It describes the work and activities of the Union, and lists many resources and topics of interest to professional crystallographers. It links also to the other web sites of the IUCr that host research journals, reference works and a directory of practitioners.

The home page

The entry point to the web site highlights major events or topics of interest in the world of crystallography. It also includes a brief listing of the most recent notices received by the news editor, with a link to the full list of recent notices. You may return to this page from any location in the web site by clicking on the IUCr logo in the top left of every page.

The main divisions of the site

From the top-level menu bar, you can readily access information about:

  • iucr: the structure and organisation of the International Union
  • journals: the IUCr's research journals published as Crystallography Journals Online
  • books: reference works and textbooks published by the IUCr, including International Tables Online
  • news: notices of jobs, meetings, new journal issues, software releases and general news items, including 'what's new' listings of the most recent postings
  • education: the work of the IUCr Teaching Commission and resources useful for teaching crystallography
  • people: information about crystallographers and links to the World Directory of Crystallographers
  • resources: compendia of other information, web sites and resources useful to the practising crystallographer
When you are viewing a page within one of these divisions, the corresponding entry in the main menu is highlighted.

The secondary divisions of the site

Under each of the main topic headings are several major subdivisions.  The main subdivisions of the section you are currently visiting appear in the second-level menu bar. At any time, however, you may mouse over any of the top-level items, and the second-level menu bar will change to list the major subdivisions of each main division.

Further navigational aids

Many of the second-level headings have drop-down menus that provide further links to subsidiary parts of the site. In addition, many of the individual pages carry menus in the left side bar that allow you to navigate between related pages.
