It is with great sadness that we advise the community of the passing of Dr George D Wignall on 23 October 2023 at his home in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA.
George Wignall will be best remembered for his contributions to the development of the SANS instruments at the High Flux Isotope Reactor at ORNL, still amongst the best-in-class, a methodology (together with Frank Bates) for the absolute calibration of SANS data, and pioneering the application of SANS to many soft condensed matter systems but, in particular, in the field of polymer science. For the latter he was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1984. During his career George Wignall authored/coauthored over 200 publications which have been cited over 11,000 times.
A longer obituary has been posted online by a local Oak Ridge community TV station:https://www.bbbtv12.com/2023/10/dr-george-d-wignall-oak-ridge/

Posted on behalf of George's many friends, colleagues and collaborators.
