OOOPS!

I just received the first issue of the IUCr Newsletter and I read on pp. 3 and 4 that the deadline for abstracts for the Beijing meeting is Feb. 1, 1993. This is in contrast to the information in the Second Circular (p. 11) which states that the deadline is Feb. 20. Of course, it is not very helpful to receive information about a deadline 18 days after it has passed or, as happens to be the fact in this case, one day before it. Better luck with future issues.

The deadline was indeed Feb. 20. Sorry for the error. I hope that the mistaken date did not discourage readers from submitting abstracts to the Beijing meeting. The Newsletter was meant to encourage rather than discourage attendance. I am pleased to be able to report that the abstract deadline was not strictly enforced. Members of the program committee were accepting large numbers of abstracts from the authors well into March. Also note that the deadline for submission of abstracts to the Satellite Meeting in Fuzhou has been extended to May 5 (see page 14).
