A new polymorph of benzene-1,2-diamine: isomorphism with 2-aminophenol and two-dimensional isostructurality of polymorphs

Acta Cryst. (2010). C66, o198–o201 (doi.org/10.1107/S0108270110008474)

[Isostructurality] Two-dimensional isostructurality of the two benzene-1,2-diamine polymorphs.

A new orthorhombic polymorph of benzene-1,2-diamine shows two-dimensional isostructurality with the well-known monoclinic form of this compound. Both polymorphs are constructed from bilayers of the hydrogen-bonded molecules that have the polar amino groups directed to the inside and the aromatic groups, showing a herringbone arrangement, directed to the outside. Moreover, the new form of benzene-1,2-diamine is isomorphous with the only known form of 2-aminophenol.
