Chiral determination: direct interpretation of convergent-beam electron diffraction patterns using the series expansion of Cowley and Moodie
A variety of methods, all involving multiple beam calculations, have been used for hand determination by convergent-beam electron diffraction. These are reviewed, along with the experimental and analytical requirements presented by differing point groups. It is found that, when a projected mirror line is present in a slightly tilted pattern, as shown, multiple beam calculations may be avoided and a simple formula involving structure factors can be used to determine the hand.
