Crystallography in Colombia

Dear Dr. Duax,

The Newsletter is reaching over 30 private and public universities, research institutes and official agencies in Colombia. Most of the Institutions have asked to be included on the list of regular subscribers of the Newsletter. X-ray work in Colombia is actually very limited. There are no single crystal facilities in the country. However, we have active research groups in Chemistry and Solid State Physics, which are in the process of buying powder diffractometers.

Our research group in Cali, U. del Valle, is working in close cooperation with the U. of Sao Carlos, Brazil, on the synthesis of molecular crystals and their crystal structure determination, to analyze their non linear optical properties. We expect to be able to publish in the J. of Chemical Crystallography in the near future.
