A neutron interferometric measurement of a phase shift induced by Laue transmission

[Neutron interferometer] Interferometer set-up for measurement of a phase shift by dynamical neutron diffraction

A neutron beam incident on a perfect crystal close to a Bragg condition is not only split into a transmitted and a reflected beam but also shows a distinct phase shift in the transmitted direction. The most pronounced feature is an extreme angular phase sensitivity of the order 1° phase shift per 10-4 arcsec beam deviation. Another interesting aspect is the occurrence of Pendellösung structures in the phase progress. A measurement of this phase shift has been performed by an especially developed neutron interferometer.
