The title compound, cis-[Re(C12H24O4P)Cl2O(C18H15P)], was prepared from the analogous trans isomer by a trans-cis isomerization reaction. The central ReV atom adopts a distorted octahedral coordination geometry. The crystal structure was determined as part of a larger study on coordination properties of H-spirophosphorane ligands, the design of transition-metal complexes and their application in catalytic reactions. Recent achievements in this area cover the use of oxorhenium complexes as co-catalysts in oxidation of aldehydes involving molecular oxygen as an oxidant and N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) as a catalyst.
