X-ray exhibition opens at the University of Liverpool [posted 30 Oct 2015] An X-ray exhibition celebrating the achievements of Sir Oliver Lodge, Charles Barkla, Arnold Beevers and Henry Lipson was opened at the University of Liverpool on 17 July 2015 by Vice-Chancellor Professor Janet Beer.
The International Union of Crystallography unveils new journal platform [posted 01 Oct 2015] The International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) has launched a brand new IUCr Journals website, for researchers involved in structural determination.
Guinier Prize Award ceremony [posted 30 Sep 2015] Sow Hsin Chen from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering received the 2015 Guinier Prize at the SAS2015 meeting in Berlin.

Chemistry and structure in Acta Crystallographica Section C [posted 08 Jan 2015] Acta Crystallographica Section C is continuing its transition to a journal that publishes exciting science with structural content, in particular important results relating to the chemical sciences. Section C is the journal of choice for the rapid publication of articles that highlight interesting research facilitated by the determination, calculation or analysis of structures of any type, other than macromolecular structures.

As the International Year of Crystallography draws to a close, we were delighted to read in the Nature article The top 100 papers [Van Noorden, R., Maher, B. & Nuzzo, R. (2014). IUCrJ celebrates its first year of publication [posted 19 Dec 2014] To coincide with the International Year of Crystallography (IYCr2014), IUCr Journals launched the comprehensive open-access journal IUCrJ in January 2014.
The wingspan of mathematical crystallography [posted 16 Dec 2014] A special virtual issue of Acta Crystallographica Section A on mathematical crystallography is now available.
Leibniz Prize for DESY scientist Henry Chapman [posted 11 Dec 2014] DESY scientist and co-editor of IUCrJ, Professor Henry Chapman will be awarded one of the prestigious Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prizes 2015 by the German research foundation Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the DFG announced on 10 December 2014 in Bonn.
The times they are a-changin’ news from Acta Crystallographica Section F [posted 10 Dec 2014] A decade ago Acta Crystallographica Section F was launched with the subtitle Structural Biology and Crystallization Communications under the excellent stewardship of Howard Einspahr and Mitchell Guss. The founding Editors made a commitment to maintain scientific rigor and to best serve our community, the authors and readers. Since 2005 we have all strived to do just that.

Earlier deposition of crystallographic data in CCDC [posted 07 Jan 2014] IUCr journals now deposit small-molecule X-ray crystal data with the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre prior to a journal's publication. CCDC deposition numbers are issued at that point, and for the first time CCDC numbers will be published in IUCr journals (referred to as CCDC references).

Google doodle celebrates Rosalind Franklin's birthday [posted 25 Jul 2013]
A search on Google on 25 July 2013 revealed a crystallography-themed doodle. Note the correct handedness of the DNA helix, the consequent cross-shaped diffraction pattern and the absence of reflections at layer 4, indicating two parallel helices shifted axially by 3/8. We thank Mariusz Jaskolski for reporting this.
