Philips Award for 1997

The winner of the Philips Award for 1997 was Kenneth Harris from the School of Chemistry, U. of Birmingham. Prof. Harris received his prize both for his definitive work on the chemical physics of one-dimensional urea inclusion compounds and for his work on ab initio structure determination from powder diffraction data with the application of Monte Carlo methods. Prof. Harris' award lecture "Physics and Chemistry of Molecular Solids" focussed on the measurement and understanding of structural and dynamic properties.
