Applied Crystallography and Horse Riding

The XVI Conference of Applied Crystallography featured presentations on phase characterization, phase transformations, correction factors in powder diffraction, the Rietveld method, substructure analysis in textured materials, texture inhomogeneity, application of position sensitive detectors, software tools, small angle X-ray scattering, stress analysis and its application, phase transition studies, peculiarities of the reversible martensitic transformations, and structure of noncrystalline materials. Social events included a lamb barbecue in Brenna where the participants could try to ride a horse. The meeting was organized by the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of Metals in Cieszyn, Poland, August 1994 and sponsored by the Polish Academy of Sciences, Philips Analytical and JEOL, Ltd.
