Bleininger Memorial Award

Dr Robert E. Newnham, ALCOA Professor of Solid State Science, Materials Research Laboratory and Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Pennsylvania State University, has been named the recipient of the 1995 Albert Victor Bleininger Award by the Pittsburgh Section, American Ceramic Society. The award is presented annually for "distinguished achievement in the field of ceramics". Newnham was president of the American Crystallographic Association in 1985, received an appointment as Honorary Professor, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, People's Republic of China in 1988, the Centennial Award, Ceramic Society of Japan in 1991, and the International Ceramics Prize, Academy of Ceramics in 1992. In 1989 he was elected to the US National Academy of Engineering in recognition of his pioneering studies of ceramic sensors and actuators.
