Europe matters

Dear Bill,

Oh dear, oh dear. In his report on the small moiety meeting in Atlanta (IUCr newsletter 3.1 p. 18 col. 3), Frank Herbstein writes that 8 of the speakers were from N. America, 4 from the UK, 11 from Europe etc. In fact Europe is as much part of the UK as N. America is of the USA or should it be the other way round.

Less important is that on p. 24 you gave a list of the European Crystallographic Committee officers, which in fact was of those who retired in 1994. It should read:

Chairman: H. Fuess (Germany)
Vice-chairman: J. Bernstein (Israel)
Secretary: A. J. Smith (UK)
Immediate past chairman: K. Huml (Czech Republic).

For "chairman", you may if you wish read "president". Apart from these errors the newsletter is still an excellent read.
