Croatian-Slovenian Meeting

The Sixth Croatian-Slovenian Crystallographic Meeting was held at Umag, Croatia, June 19-21, 1997. The topics of the meeting were physical, biological and applied crystallography and mineralogy. Four plenary lectures were on the following topics: Structural studies of the interactions between metal ions and biological molecules (P. Orioli, Italy), State of the art structure solution from powder diffraction data (A. Meden, Slovenia), Scandium metal systems and intermetallics (B. Y. Kotur, Ukraine), and Synergy between crystallography and computational chemistry (M. Vinkovic, Croatia). An excursion to the Istrian inland included a visit to Motovun, with its preserved medieval fortifications and an Istrian wine tasting. Co-chairmen of the meeting were B. Kamenar, President of the Croatian Crystallographic Association (CCA), and L. Golic, President of the Slovenian Crystallographic Society (SCS). The meeting was sponsored by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia, Philips-Analytical X-ray, The Netherlands, Pliva-Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Food and Cosmetic Industry, Croatia, and the Koralj Hotel, Croatia. The Seventh Slovenian-Croatian Crystallographic Meeting will be held in June 1998, in the Republic of Slovenia.
