ACA Summer Course

Participants at the ACA Summer Course.

The sixth annual ACA Summer Course was held at the U. ofGeorgia Aug. 3-14, 1997. The course provided instruction and hands-on training in small molecule X-ray diffraction to 46 people including graduate and undergraduate students, post-docs, assistant professors and representatives of industry. Over 200 people have taken the course over the six years it has been offered because X-ray diffraction studies of small molecules have become automated and routine. Since US universities do not offer fundamental courses in X-ray diffraction, the ACA Summer course fills this need for fundamental instruction. The course was organized with lectures during the mornings, hands-on experience (crystal mounting, diffracrometry and use of computer programs) during the afternoon and special help sessions in late afternoon. Course lecturers were W. Cordes (U. of Arkansas), R. Marsh (Cal Tech), G. Newton (USA), W. Robinson (Canterbury U., New Zealand), J. Rose (USA) and N. L. Allinger (USA).
