Acta Crystallographica Section B

Frank Allen

Section B of Acta Crystallographica has broad chemical coverage (metals, alloys, inorganics, minerals, metallo-organics, and organics) and publishes papers describing novel methods of structure determination, electron density studies, crystal engineering, structural systematics and correlations, and applications of structural data in the design of materials and drugs. Section B has developed themes that can be summarized as: the acquisition of structural knowledge from novel experimental observations or from existing data, the correlation of structural knowledge with physico-chemical and other information, and applications of this knowledge to solve problems in the structural domain. In short, how do we acquire structural knowledge? What are its implications? and how do we use it?

The diversity of Section B is its strength. Full-length Research Papers are its core; Editorially commissioned Lead Articles and Reviews of major research areas will continue. Section B will also publish short, highly focused reviews, concentrating on topical research themes. Although review material shall not dominate the journal it is seen as a catalyst for new developments and essential to the effective exchange of information. Structural science has come of age and many excellent papers in this area are published in a wide spectrum of chemical, biological, and materials science journals. Section B belongs to the crystallographic community, but its contents touch upon and communicate with many areas of scientific endeavour.

Your continued support of Section B as a vigorous, varied, and attractive medium for the very best papers, communications, and reviews in structural science, will sustain its development and expansion as a major international and inter-disciplinary journal.
