The CONCISE Server in Europe

It has been possible to arrange for items of news on crystallography to be installed on the CONCISE server of the European Communities RARE/COSINE project. The use of the server is free (for the moment) and may be accessed by e-mail, file transfer, or interactive session. The means of using the server are described below.

Items on crystallography have been installed as a subsection of the special interest groups, i.e., /sigs/crystal. All crystallography items can be located by doing a find on CRYSTALLOGRAPHY or CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC.

At the moment you will find information about the activities of the International Union of Crystallography, the European Crystallographic Committee and information on conferences, schools, and workshops concerned with crystallography and taking place in Europe. If you have items of information on crystallography in Europe, which you would like to see included on the CONCISE server, you should send them to H. D. Flack, preferably as an e-mail message: flack@sc2a.unige.ch.

Using the CONCISE server by interactive session

You will probably already have access to a local network, your country's research network, or a public network. You must find out how to use this to call an X.25 network address on either the IXI network or the public X.25 network. If you do not know how to do this you should contact your local network manager or someone in a similar role to help you.

The IXI network address is (0) 2043 3450 3999 15.

The public X.25 address is (0) 2342 3440 0193 15.

The interactive session may also be accessed over dial-up telephone lines using a modem. The telephone number to call is 44 344 868 436. Modem speeds supported are 300, 1200, and 2400 baud.
