Integrated On-line Database System

The Canadian Scientific Numeric Database Service (CAN/SND), operated by the National Research Council Canada, provides worldwide on-line access to evaluated chemical, physical, and crystallographic data.

All major crystallographic databases are supported by specially designed scientific, database management, and computer systems software. All substances of known unit cell are represented and nearly 400,000 entries are available for searching.

The most important feature of the present on-line service is that a single index-based search system has now been implemented which suffices to search all databases. The search and analysis commands are simple and easy to use and access, either via commercial networks or via Internet, is easy and inexpensive.

The system may be used for materials identification (analysis), materials design (drugs, superconductors, alloys, isostructures, or thin films), mineralogy, studies of crystallographic symmetry, lattice geometry and molecular geometry, as well as for literature and data retrieval.
