All the Crystallographic News that is Fit to Print

The International Union of Crystallography Newsletter will be published quarterly and sent free of charge to over 10,000 crystallographers throughout the world. The IUCr Newsletter has been created to serve crystallography and crystallographers, to strengthen national and regional crystallographic associations, and to augment national and regional crystallographic newsletters.

This Newsletter will contain:

  • feature articles on advances in crystal growth, diffraction technology, structural databases, and computer graphics and software
  • highlights of national and international meetings
  • reports from IUCr Commissions
  • reports from representatives in the 34 member countries of the IUCr
  • actions of the Executive Committee of the IUCr
  • announcements of future meetings of interest to crystallographers
  • information on IUCr publications
  • letters to the editor
  • positions available

The IUCr Newsletter is not intended to duplicate or replace regional and national newsletters. It will be limited in the amount of space that it will be able to devote to the activities of any one country.

The Newsletter will be edited at the Medical Foundation of Buffalo and published by the American Institute of Physics. Contributions to the Newsletter have been solicited from the chairpersons, secretaries, and official representatives of the 17 IUCr Commissions, 5 regional and scientific associations, the adhering bodies in the 34 member countries of the IUCr, the chairpersons of IUCr sponsored meetings, the editors of national crystallographic newsletters, and representatives of organizations that develop and distribute crystallographic databases.

In order that this Newsletter may be distributed free of charge, it will be necessary to attract enough advertisers to cover the cost of publication. You could help to secure the needed advertisers if you would provide a list of names and addresses of manufacturers and vendors of crystallographic equipment, supplies, software, hardware, teaching aids, modeling kits, and related material that you patronize. Any companies that market to members of the crystallographic community are potential candidates to advertise in the IUCr Newsletter.

The Newsletter is to have a full color cover. Ideas and illustrations for covers that reflect the broad range of crystallographic applications, and the international character of crystallography are being sought.

You are invited to contribute feature articles, letters to the editor, reviews of meetings, and any items concerning crystallography or crystallographers that you consider newsworthy for possible inclusion in forthcoming Newsletters.
