Hungarian State Prize

On March 15, 1994 (the National Holiday of Hungary) Prof. Alajos Kálmán (Central Research Institute for Chemistry of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest) was one of the recipients of the most prestigious Hungarian State Prize, bearing the name of István Count Széchenyi (founder of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1825), for his outstanding work in the X-ray crystallography of organic compounds of pharmacological importance. Professor Kalman has been a member of the IUCr Executive Committee for nine years and finished his Union services as the outgoing Vice President in Beijing in August 1993.
