Historical photographs

Dear Bill:

I just received my latest copy of the IUCr Newsletter. I note that you listed three types of photographs which you are accepting. I would like to suggest a fourth type: those of historical interest. There must be a large number of privately held photos that would be of interest to other crystallographers. I have one or two that I could make available. One is a candid shot of Dave Harker and John Kasper talking at the Hawaii meeting (the Harker-Kasper Rules come to life). The other is a charming photo of N. V. Belov standing in front of his poster at the IUCr Stony Brook  meeting in 1969. I was in charge of the exhibit at that meeting, and I wrote to authors of recent articles on crystallographic apparatus offering to post them. So far as I know, and in spite of written comments to the contrary, this was the first poster session at a scientific conference. In any case, Belov sent in a poster commemorating the work of Bragg on minerals and was photographed in front of it. If you are interested, I could write this historical note up in some more efficient manner and submit it along with the photo. By the way, I think the identifications of Sig Weissman and Ludo Frevel are reversed in the caption of the photo on page 25.

Dear Reuben:

I would be pleased to have the article and photos, and you are right about Weissman and Frevel.
