A New Synchrotron Station at Daresbury

Recently announced funding by SERC will lead to the development of a new experimental station on the synchrotron radiation source at Daresbury Laboratory. The project will be monitored and guided by a Cooperative Research Group of seven senior academic scientists representing a wide variety of research fields, together with scientists and engineers at Daresbury.

The combination of special properties of synchrotron radiation (high flux, excellent collimation, availability of a range of wavelengths) will facilitate structure determination from very small and weakly scattering crystals, accurate electron density studies, and measurements under nonambient conditions of temperature and pressure. High-speed data collection will be possible for unstable compounds.

The station should be available for use early in 1996. For further information, contact: Prof. W. Clegg, Department of Chemistry, University of Newcastle, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU, UK.
