Jubilee of E. I. Gladyshevskii

E. I. Gladyshevskii, Chairman of the Ukranian Crystallographic Committee, vital and active on his 70th birthday.

A scientific conference in Lviv, Ukraine on April 13, 1994 honored Evgen I. Gladyshevskii, Professor of Lviv State University and Chairman of the Ukrainian Crystallographic Committee, on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Invited lectures were presented by the Vice-President of the IUCr, Yu. T. Struchkov (Moscow), W. Suski (Wroclaw), T. Ya. Velikanova, K. Lukaszewicz (Wroclaw), S. F. Dunaev (Moscow), Yu. V. Voroshilov, P. M. Zorky (Moscow), R. Kubiak (Wroclaw), J. Stepien-Damm (Wroclaw), and E. I. Gladyshevskii (Lviv). Posters presented by colleagues and former students described the synthesis, crystal structure analysis, and properties of intermetallic compounds.

E. I. Gladyshevskii was the founder of the center of crystal chemistry of intermetallics at Lviv University. His investigations of rare earth intermetallics are recognized throughout the world. He is the author of 3 monographs and more than 350 scientific papers. In 1993, Ukrainian crystallographers elected him to be the first leader of the National Crystallographic Committee, which joined the International Union of Crystallography at the General Assembly in Beijing in August 1993. E. I. Gladyshevskii is still vital, rich in new ideas and plans, and is surrounded by students and young scientists.
