The Cambridge Structural Database on CD-ROM

The Cambridge Crystallographic Data Center has released the 3D Graphics Version of the CSD System on CD-ROM. This is available for both UNIX and VMS platforms. The UNIX version will run on Silicon Graphics, Sun, RS/6000, and DEC Alpha machines. Both the UNIX and VMS versions can be searched directly from the CD-ROM. The CD-ROM also contains Volumes 1 and 2 of the User Manual in hypertext format.

The April 1994 Release has the following new features:

  • 5557 New entries.
  • 4184 Corrected entries.
  • 1828 Entries from the Protein Data Bank (no coordinates).
  • VISTA - a new software package linked to QUEST for interactive statistical analysis of hits.

The CSD System is distributed to academic users worldwide through National/Regional Affiliated Centers. A list of these Centers has appeared in the IUCr Newsletter, Vol. 1 No. 2, p. 19. The list includes the Japanese National Affiliated Center at the Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University, 3-2 Yamadaoka, Suita, Osaka 565. Japanese academic users should continue to use this Center and not the Japanese Association for Chemical Information (JAICI) as stated on p. 26 of the IUCr Newsletter, Vol. 2 No. 1. All Centers are supplied with the CD-ROM version at no additional cost to the annual subventions which cover the distribution of an unlimited number of copies of the CSD System to academic users in a geographic area. To date over 250 CD-ROM copies were distributed worldwide.
